Passive Sampling for Sewage Surveillance

● Lab sewage model

The assembled sewage model in working order, housed in a biological safety cabinet.

Torpedo devices, which encase various sampling materials, can be placed into the system and retrieved at any time.

● Passive sampling device deploy

The torpedo device was deployed earlier to test the durability of various media under field conditions

Extra care was taken to secure the devices using zip ties and nylon ropes

All three torpedoes, housing various media, were recovered after 48 hours, significant dragging was observed

Upon dismantling the device, it was noted that:

  • All eight materials remained intact, where the tampon section has some slight disintegration
  • Some sediment/solids became attached to the materials, they were also included in the respective sample
